Posted in April 2022, she served at the Antenatal Unit for about a year and was subsequently reassigned to the Lying-in Ward. She has been involved in several public health education campaigns. Key amongst these is Cervical Cancer screening and education.
Philipina, affectionately known as Pynna, was part of a training on female genital schistosomiasis and cervical cancer screening led by the Centre for Research and Applied Biology (CeRAB) of the University of Energy and Natural Resources. This was the background to her innovative project on the CERVASHIP Centre aimed at providing a one-stop centre for educating, screening, and treatment of precancerous cervical lesions. The centre was set up in September 2023.
She underwent further training at the Cervical Cancer Prevention and Training Centre at Battor in 2024 aimed at boosting her capacity in cervical cancer screening and early treatment. She was also a participant at the 37th Annual Conference of the International Papillomavirus Society (IPVS 2025) in Bangkok, Thailand, in October 2025.
Through her efforts, the Tain District Hospital got a thermal coagulator donated by the Rotary Clubs of Accra East and Eau Claire, USA, and cervical cancer screening consumables from the Member of Parliament of Tain Constituency.
In December 2024, Philipinna was awarded the first runner-up in the 2024 Best Staff Awards of the Tain District Hospital for her efforts in the establishment of the CERVASHIP Centre.
She is also credited for spearheading a customer care training program held pro bono for the Tain District Hospital by HIPAG Services in February 2025.
Pynna was also part of the team that proposed and initiated the TDH@60 celebrations that culminated in a grand durbar in April 2026.

Philipina Akoto Mensah holds a BSc in Midwifery from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST, and a Master of Public Health in Population and Reproductive Health from the same institution.
