In a bid to ensure prompt responses to cardiac arrest episodes and other emergencies, about 130 clinical and non-clinical staff have undergone an intensive refresher training. This was from the 11th to the 13th of February 2026.

The training is part of the aims of the Ghana Health Service to ensure that all staff, both clinical and nonclinical, have the basic skill set and knowledge in response to life-threatening cardiac emergencies.
It is a follow-up to the training of trainers workshop held in November 2025 by the Institutional Care Division of the service, an initiative of the Director-General, Prof Samuel Kaba Akoriyea.

Facilitating the training, Dr. (Med) Philip Taah-Amoako, surgeon and Medical Superintendent, trained staff on cardiopulmonary resuscitation, in-hospital and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest algorithm in the paediatric and adult populations, team dynamics, and emergency response to choking episodes. Other trainers included Mrs. Sandra Konadu, Emergency Nurse with the Municipal Hospital, and Mrs. Ellen Boamah, Critical Care Nurse at the same facility. The former trained staff on the paediatric and adult cardiac arrest algorithm and oxygen delivery devices, while the latter led the training in airway management and the use of the automated external defibrillator. Participants were taken through various cardiac arrest case scenarios.

The training was held under the supervision of the Deputy Director of Clinical Services, with approval from the office of the Regional Director of Health Services. It is expected to be replicated in other hospitals within the Bono Region.
