The Sunyani Region of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall, in collaboration with the hospital, undertook 169 free surgeries from Wednesday, May 29th, to Saturday, May 31st, 2025. This was to commemorate the society’s Centenary Celebrations and the hospital’s 60th Anniversary.
In all 20 health professionals volunteered to join the local team of health workers to achieve this feat. These included 2 teams of gynecologists and general surgeons.
The Gynecology team included
- Dr Adu Appiah-Kubi, Snr lecturer with the University of Health and Allied Sciences, a Gynaec-Oncologist with Ho Teaching Hospital and Co CEO AnA Royal Medical Center. He is also the co-founder of Appiah-Kubi Foundation.
- Dr Ben Blay Ofosu-Darko, Obgyn Specialist with KATH and CEO of Adiebeba Hospital
- Dr Kwabena Ababio, Obgyn Specialist with KATH and CEO of Orion Healthcare
- Dr Eric Ackom, Obgyn Specialist with Dormaa Presby Hospital and Snr Resident with KATH.
- Dr Johnson Kyeremeh, Obgyn Resident with KATH
- Grace Dwomoh, Perioperative Nurse with the 37 Military Hospital
- Frank Atta Boakye, Sunyani Teaching Hospital, Sunyani
The General Surgery team included

- Dr Evans Appiah, Medical Officer, Bechem Government Hospital
- Dr Irene Elorm Hodalor, Medical Officer
- Dr Kelvin Gidisu, Medical Officer
- Dr Frederick Ahordzor, University for Development Studies/Dormaa Presby Hospital.
- Andrew Hinneh, Perioperative Nurse, St Elizaeth Hospital, Nkoranza
- Aisha Raheem, Perioperative Nurse, Dormaa East District Hospital
- Adeline Abena Amankwaa, Perioperative Nurse, Sunyani Teaching Hospital
- Frank Asenso, Anesthetist, Bechem Government Hospital
Surgeries conducted included 88 hernia repairs, 18 thyroidectomies, 4 hydrocelectomies, 4 hemorrhoidectomies, 30 excision surgeries, 12 myomectomies, 9 hysterectomies, 2 vaginal fistula repairs and 1 cystectomy.
The outreach offered an opportunity for exchange of ideas among the professionals, polishing of skills, and even the chance to learn new skills. It also marked the first time certain surgeries like vaginal fistula repairs were done in the facility


The closing ceremony was graced by the Regional Grand Knight, Sunyani Region of the Knights and Ladies of Marshall, the Assistant Parish Priest of St Michael’s Parish, Rev. Fr. Bro. Alex Awuah, the Chairman of the Christian Council, Tain District and the District Chief Imam.



The Medical Superintendent, Dr. Philip Taah-Amoako, expressed his utmost appreciation to the Marshallan Society for their donation of consumables that helped to undertake this project. He was also grateful for the support from the Marshallan Relief and Development Services (MAREDES), Appiah-Kubi Foundation, Glory KinderCare Learning Complex, and the various pharmaceutical companies.
