
Tain District Hospital, as part of activities marking its 60th Anniversary and to enhance awareness on Breast Cancer, has organized School-based Awareness Creation and Breast Examination exercises in three educational institutions in the Tain District. A community sensitization program was additionally undertaken at the Banda District.
The team of eight staff, comprising a Physician Assistant, Wellness Clinic, Health Promotion, and Nutrition Unit members, undertook the exercises.
A total of 435 breast examinations were conducted. Nineteen (19) cases of breast pain and lumps were diagnosed and referred to the hospital for further management.


Participants were taken through self-examination techniques for early detection of breast cancer and were educated on the signs and symptoms of the condition. Myths and misconceptions surrounding breast cancer were also addressed.


The heads of the institutions and community leaders expressed appreciation for the team’s efforts to increase awareness. They commended the hospital for maintaining partnerships that ensure the health of their students and communities.
